Location Sound Recordist and Mixer
Satsop is an abstract music recording inside of a nuclear cooling tower. The Satsop Nuclear Plant was began construction in the 1970’s and was going to be the larges nuclear power plant project in U. S. history. The Nuclear Plant was stopped because the budget swelled to $24 billion and there was a lot of public rejection to the plant. One portion of the project, plant 3 (Were the Recording took place) was 85% compete with even the reactor in place but was never finished. The Satsop nuclear plant was later converted in to a business park but most of it is still abandon. Cooling tower three where the recording took place stands over 480 feet tall and is one of the most amazing acoustic places in the world.
My department director Steve Barsotti was the first to introduce me about later recording he performed there. Ever since he told me about this location I was determined to record in that space and in my second to last quarter that dream became reality. I organized a location recording in the most complete cooling tower at the nuclear site with artiest including Stewart Dempster, Paul Kikuchi and Steve Barsotti. We did a 5.1 decca tree and an over 350 feet stereo pair microphone set up. This was the most amazing location recording I have ever done and I can’t wait to go back.
